EDF Energy
About EDF Group
EDF Group is a major player in the European energy industry – and a significant business in itself. Across the globe, there are more than 160,000 people working for us, and we get involved in every area of the electricity chain: from generation to trading.
We’re more than just a traditional energy company, however. We don’t just talk about low carbon sources of energy – we play a leading role in developing them. Around the world, we’re undertaking bold initiatives; developing projects; and investing heavily in tomorrow’s energies.
EDF Energy is the UK subsidiary. It is supplies energy to about 5.5 million customers, is the country’s largest generator of electricity and distributes power to a quarter of the population.
Leading the way in nuclear energy
The current balance of energy sources isn’t sustainable. This is why we’re developing a low-carbon future by expanding our involvement in clean, safe and efficient nuclear power generation.
We’ve set out plans to play a leading role in new nuclear build in the UK. By 2025, we’re aiming to build and operate four new nuclear power stations, with the first commissioned by the end of 2017. We’re exceptionally well placed to do this. As the world's most experienced nuclear power generator, with 58 reactors in operation in France and 15 in the UK..
What does the future have in store?
The future is brimming with potential for us. While engaging in programmes of development and operation in France and the UK, we’re also focusing on building new reactors in the USA and China. Nuclear power has the potential to play a huge part in the future of energy. We intend to lead the way.
EDF Energy is perfectly placed. Recently, we joined forces with British Energy – the largest generator of electricity in the UK, and a major player in nuclear power.
So it’s with conviction that we believe nuclear power has a part to play in the future of energy as one element in a diverse generation mix. We believe diversity is crucial to address climate change, ensure security of supply and to provide competitively priced electricity for customers.
Who are we looking for?
Primarily we are looking for people with a background in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics for engineering roles. You don’t necessarily need to be a recent graduate. Our Learning programmes ensure that you will be supported throughout your career with EDF Energy. whether you are a graduate, have experience or are making a career change. The size and scope of our business will also have many benefits personally.
Ruth Freedman, Licensing Engineer (former graduate, UK)
“When I came to choose a company to join, EDF Energy stood out. I wanted to be involved at the pioneering end of nuclear energy and because they’re building nuclear power stations in France they seemed the obvious choice.
My time on the graduate programme gave me a good broad knowledge of the EDF Energy business, as well as useful skills that I can use in my day-to-day work. I got a real sense of the different areas of the business and the confidence to present to very senior people.”
